This past weekend, The Atomic Cowboy hosted ARTCRANK – a poster party for bike people. Now in it’s third year, ARTCRANK is a traveling showcase of local artists and their love of bikes and cycling culture. Artists from each city create, display and sell their work at each event – with free admission and affordable print prices.
Our very own Senior Art Director, Heath Harris was featured in this year’s show with his piece, “Apotheosis of Saint Louis Popping a Wheelie”.
For more photos from the event, head over to The Riverfront Times.
Heath’s piece, along with 29 others will remain on display as part of ARTCRANK’s two-week extension that runs through June 25th at The Atomic Cowboy (4140 Manchester).
As the younger generation becomes more tech savvy, it is no surprise that the online community is speculating that the iPad will become the ‘Toy of the Year’. This seems a bit outlandish, thinking that small children would be interested in a portable computer, but parents are finding that this is the perfect device. It is small and travels easily, making entertainment for the little ones easy to take anywhere. Most surprising however, is that the tots can navigate through it by themselves.
Recently, AdAge tested this idea by giving 3-year-old Everett an iPad. With no instruction, he managed to turn the device on, swipe through the different pages of apps, and then start, play, and exit them. This video below is just one of the many that can be found online showing children interacting with the device:
Every time I join a new social media site, I have to create a username. Sometimes, I’m comfortable with using my given name while others need something more creative or that better defines me; Superwarriorprincessducky2. Christopher Poole, founder of the controversial 4chan, takes issue with this sort of identification. His site, built when he was a mere 15 years old, is successful because the users never have to identify themselves. Content can be uploaded by anyone, and no one needs to take the credit for it.
Poole argues that free use of the internet is becoming endangered and needs protection. He speaks to the raw content of his site and acknowledges the significant amount of adult content and a few instances where people have taken it too far. However, he defends the site and its open and truthful discussion; something he sees the internet loosing with identification requirements on a majority of sites where content is uploaded and shared. Poole isn’t alone in his thinking. His website gets around 7 million visitors each month and his followers are dedicated. As you will see in the clip, the 4chan community was able to control the Time100 with their voting and succeeded in making Poole number one on the list.
All of this is discussed on stage at the TED forum in California.
